Images of Ike
Over at my photoblog I have been posting some pictures from Ike. Here is a collage of them:
Life Post-Ike
Well, for us, we were very, very lucky. We kept our power and water the whole time. We lost internet for three days. Scarey, I know. My friends survived with maybe some light roof damage, a downed tree, or a broken fence. Some are even without power at this point. But, we are here, and noone I know was hurt. Seeing some of the pictures, I know it could have been far worse. The building next to my office to a major hit:
Luckily, the storm gave us enough warning that the building was all but empty. Nobody was hurt. However, my development lab is in that building, and it will be down until October.
I was downtown Monday and Tuesday. It was deserted. The bus was not running on the first day. Our school district cancled classes for the week, so I am back home to help with the kids. We are talking about taking a day trip on Friday, but we are limited on where we can go since so many things are still closed.
The city is starting to get back on its feet a bit. Power is being restored to the 2 million or so who did not have it. The lucky ones already have power. Those who do not have it may not get power until October. I figure that the city will be limping back along almost at full steam sometime next week. I am trying to figure out what I can do to help those who have been impacted by this storm. I gave blood today because I head they were calling for more donors yesterday. I still need to figure out what I can do.
